Polish citizens, as nationals of the European Union, have the right to freely move and reside within the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. Thanks to this, they do not need a visa or residence permit to settle in Cyprus – however, after a certain period, a few administrative formalities must be completed.
Polish citizens can stay in Cyprus for up to 90 days without registration. This is considered a typical tourist or familiarization stay – ideal if you want to:
look for a property to buy or rent,
complete relocation formalities,
get acquainted with local living and working conditions.
If you plan to stay in Cyprus for more than 90 days, you must register your stay as an EU citizen. This is done by filling out the MEU1 form at the Civil Registry and Migration Department of Cyprus.
a valid passport or identity card,
proof of employment, self-employment, or sufficient financial resources,
a rental agreement or property ownership deed in Cyprus,
proof of registration with the local tax office and/or health insurance,
administrative fee (approximately 10 euros).
After registering, you will receive a Registration Certificate, commonly known as the Yellow Slip.
As an EU citizen, you can:
take up employment in Cyprus without additional permits,
establish a business or register a Cypriot company,
work remotely while legally residing in Cyprus, provided your stay and taxes are properly regulated.
Children of EU citizens are entitled to education in public schools (in Greek) or private schools (often in English).
EU citizens can register with the national healthcare system GESY after becoming residents.
Private health insurance is also available.
If you spend more than 183 days per year in Cyprus, you may obtain tax residency.
This status grants access to favorable tax conditions, and when combined with non-dom status, you can avoid paying tax on foreign income for up to 17 years.
For Polish citizens, moving to Cyprus is a relatively straightforward process that does not require fulfilling investment conditions.
However, it is crucial to register your stay after 90 days and properly prepare the required documents.
If you plan to move to Cyprus, it is advisable to seek expert assistance to help you navigate all formalities — from finding a property to registering your stay and obtaining a tax number.
